Gallup, NM, 10-18

After leaving the Grand Canyon, we crossed a broad desert plain...

...and visited the site of a 50,000 year-old meteor impact near Winslow, AZ.  The crater is a mile in diameter, 2.5 miles in circumference and nearly 600 feet deep.  In the photo below, the tiny dots on the far-right rim of the crater are people.

The flat plains of eastern Arizona gave way to the red-rock mesas of New Mexico as we headed toward Gallup.

  1. You guys didn't go to Winslow Arizona and re-enact the famous Eagles song? We are seeing the Eagles in 48 hours roughly and will certainly be singing back-up vocals to: Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona, Such a fine sight to see, There's a girl my Lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me......

Ah yes! Travel safely and hope to see you soon.
