Grand Canyon National Park, 10-17

On our last day at Grand Canyon we witnessed more of what our friend Jane calls "...the mighty presence of a deep and wild power."





It is hard to see in this photo, but the white spot that looks a bit like the letter "C" in the lower left-hand quarter is the shore of the Colorado River, which is the greenish patch to the right of the "C."  This is where Phantom Ranch is located, the place where folks who hike or ride mules down can spend the night.


Notice the dry creek bed and trails on the plateau below.

The Colorado River (in the foreground) meanders for 270 miles through the 10-mile wide canyon.  Currently, the river is a mile below the rim of the canyon, and exposes rock 1.8 billion years old.


A western bluebird.






California condors have been successfully reintroduced into Grand Canyon.
