Oakland, CA, 10-5

Travel Tip:

These California coastal bluffs, composed of sandstone and bedrock, appear to be solid.

In reality, weathering by wind and water have weakened the sandstone which will eventually disintegrate or break off creating sea stacks.

Until only the bedrock is left.

And a gazillion years later, it too will disappear beneath the waves.

We left the coast and travelled inland through wine country.  Like corn fields in Illinois, grape vines and wineries (over 600 in Sonoma County) line the road for miles.

We crossed the bay on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge into Oakland...

...and waited patiently while a stretch Hummer turned in front of us.
