Today we rode cable cars up and down some of San Francisco's notoriously steep hills.
After walking around Nob Hill for awhile, we did an about face and went to North Beach where we visited the Beat Museum with its eclectic collection of memorabilia from Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Kerouac, and other Beat generation authors. Right across the street was Ferlinghetti's City Lights Bookstore, looking very popular and prosperous, which was nice to see.
Across the street from the bookstore, a mural by Bill Weber, and above the street, an installation called Language of the Birds, artist unknown.
Vesuvio Café is next door to City Lights.
A view downtown from North Beach.
We decided to walk up to Coit Tower at the top of Telegraph Hill.
We walked back down to North Beach where we had lunch at Molinari's Deli (100+ years in business). They make their own tasty salted pig parts.
Our next stop was Chinatown.
A Samurai multi-tool.
The Chinatown branch of the San Francisco Public Library.
We took one last cable car down toward the Embarcadero with a stop at Lombard Street (the steepest in the city)...
...and a stop at Ghiradelli Square for a taste of chocolate and to see how the stuff is made.
